The DSIR Plant Breeding Symposium was held at Lincoln New Zealand, February 17-20 1986, to celebrate 50 years since the first New Zealand-bred wheat cultivar was released and the first DSIR building was established at Lincoln. Plant breeders and scientists from related disciplines from 17 countries met for three days to discuss their work, review their achievements and take a glimpse at the future of the plant breeding industry. Papers from spoken presentations and posters are published in this proceedings.
Whilst this publication serves as a record of the Symposium it is also intended to provide an insight into the working strategies of plant breeders and scientists in supporting fields of research.
The editors would like to thank all those who generously shared their time to referee the manuscripts, and the authors for their contributions. The support of DSIR staff at Lincoln is particularly appreciated.
