The lack of descriptions of the plants of the Cape Peninsula in a convenient form has been felt for a long time by botanists, teachers, students, and even more by visitors and others with an interest in the beauties and curiosities of our exceedingly rich flora. It is to meet the needs of these that the present book has been prepared. It deals with all the vascular plants, and while not what is termed a "popular" book and without illustrations, is not overloaded with detail or with technicalities. It is intended to meet the need of the serious student and still to be of value to the amateur. It may be compared with the regional floras of many parts of the northern hemisphere.
