A Joy Forever Vanda Miss Joaquim

Author(s): Teoh Eng Soon

Orchids | Don McMillan

1982. Discovered in 1893 in a Singapore garden, the natural hybrid named Vanda Miss Joaquim was propagated by the millions, and set precedence for a worldwide programme of hybridisation. It was chosen as Singapore's national flower in 1981

A Joy Forever follows the Vanda Miss Joaquim in her historical journey to fame. Also gleaming in alluring shades of colours are pictures of the parents, clones, various colourful hybrids of Vanda Miss Joaquim, and other notable orchids, all of which played a supporting role in the cultural heritage of the region.

Beautiful, and yet strangely resilient, this orchid has been created into lovely corsages and leis, not to mention, timelessly immortalised in beautiful collectibles and jewellery. From its mesmerising petals to lush green stems, this book demonstrates how the Vanda Miss Joaquim's mysterious hues of delicate mauve have become, and will continue to be, an inspiration to many.
