There was a time when a range of nuts was an important part of everyone's diet and there were special landscapes in the countryside where these were produced. The cobnut becamnse the most important of these, especially throughout the southern counties, where thousands of acres were given over to the nut orchards or 'plats'. This is the story of the nuts that became known as the Kentish Cobnuts.
