This is the eighth printing of The Trees of New Zealand, which is testimony enough to the usefulness of this introduction to our native trees. The demand for it by students and others has continued unabated for almost 40 years. Though the text has been revised slightly for new editions, the layout has been little changed. The introductory essay is still an excellent short account of the country's primitive forests, although the concepts as to their origin are not these days always accepted because of evidence brought to light since it was written. Latin names have been brought up to date.
