HB with DJ. Fair condition, with foxing to end papers but all plates are very good. Very hard to find and although not great condition, a good pictorial reference.
German and english text.
The beautiful photos in this book were taken by Holger Leue who did a great job of capturing the beauty of epiphyllums in bloom. Most only bloom in late Spring and early summer, but my goodness ... when you have a yard full of these plants in bloom, you know why you lovingly tend to them during the year. Holger became a friend of my dad, George French (p.42), and visited his yard in Point Loma (San Diego) several times and thus got a good look at true beauty (and I'm not talking just about the epis, but also the character of my parents). Thank you, Holger, Marga and Matthias Leue for immortalizing the beauty of epiphyllums and the hybridizers who lovingly introduced them to the world.
Now for specifics: The first 95 pages are color photos of epis with their names (Jennifer Ann on p.53 was named after my daughter and Madeline on p.59 was named after my mother), this is followed by 11 pages in German and then their translation into English (sections on "From the Jungle to the Latest Hybrids," "Care and Fertilization," "Pests and Disease," "Propagation"), ending with an index of the pictured epis that includes the name of each hybridizer and a Registration Form that shows how they are classified by the hybridizer. There is really no need for more details on the care of epis ... a good climate is key.
