Art & Botanical Illustration

CAPTURING FLORA - 300 YEARS OF AUSTRALIAN BOTANICAL ART. Wonderful historical survey of the botanical illustration of Australian plants, from the time of Dampier to 2012. Large format hardcover, with many of the illustrations full-page, most of the major botanical artists are represented. The earlier artists of course are European Parkinson, Bauer, Redoute, etc though from the 1850s on, they mostly lived here. This sumptuous publication accompanied the exhibition of the same name at the Art Gallery of Ballarat late in 2012, and then at the SH Irvin Gallery in Sydney. The first printing quickly sold out. Five informative essays by Gordon Morrison (the curator), Richard Aitken and others together with extensive captions support the illustrations.
