READING THIS BOOK MAY CAUSE "HELICONIA FEVER"

This thoroughly researched, well organized and admirably illustrated work expands upon the landmark Berry and Kress volume. The excellent photos and detailed descriptions document nearly 300 heliconia cultivars of South America, Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico. Size and flowering season as well as light, moisture and soil requirements are important considerations in properly placing and successfully cultivating heliconias in a garden or landscape, and you will find that information and more in "The Heliconias". Let me emphasize the "and more" as the details are extensive and meticulous. This impressive book quickly answered my questions -- what is the difference between griggsiana Full Moon and griggsiana Harvest Moon? -- and -- what is the difference between chartacea Surinam Gold and chartacea Meeana Yellow? However, the book, which is clearly a labor love by its expert author, is not only for the scientist, collector or grower. The abundant photos are sharp, well-lighted and true in color. They will delight and inspire any plant lover. Warning: reading this book may cause "heliconia fever", a nearly incurable obsession to plant as many heliconias as possible.
